Prof. MUDr. Vladimír Teplan, DrSc. absolvoval lékařskou fakultu UK v Praze. Pracoval na I. interním oddělení FTN v Krči,na III. interní výzkumné základně IKEM jako vědecký pracovník a následně byl zaměstnancem IPVZ, nejprve jako odborný asistent, poté docent a od r. 1995 vedoucí Subkatedry nefrologie IPVZ. V letech 1997- 2007 byl přednostou Kliniky nefrologie IKEM, od r. 2008 je zástupcem přednosty.
Atestoval z vnitřního lékařství (I. a II. stupeň),z nefrologie a metabolismu a výživy. Obhájil kandidátskou disertační práci, habilitoval v roce 1992 a v roce 2001 obhájil doktorskou disertační práci.V roce 2002 byl jmenován profesorem UK pro obor vnitřní nemoci.
Publikoval více než 200 prací v domácím i zahraničím písemnictví v problematice nefrologie a metabolismu a výživy. Je autorem či významným spoluautorem 12 monografií a 60 kapitol v monografiích v ČR i v zahraničí.Na klinickou nefrologii jsou zaměřeny především monografie Praktická nefrologie (Grada Publ., 1998), Metabolismus a ledviny (Grada Publ., 2000). Akutní stavy v nefrologii (Triton, 1999). Nefrologie - minimum pro praxi (Triton 2001), Nefrologie (Triton 2003), Praktická nefrologie, nově přepracované vydání (Grada Publ. 2005), Akutní poškození a selhání ledvin (Grada Publ. 2010),Dieta a nutriční opatření u chorob ledvin a močových cest (MF Aeskulap 2010) a recentně Nefrologické minimum pro klinickou praxi(MF Aeskulap 2013) oceněné cenami ČLS JEP, IKEM a IPVZ.
Je hlavním řešitelem grantových studií IGA a je členem vědeckých rad IKEM, IPVZ a II. LF UK. Je členem redakční rady časopisů Nieren u. Hochdruckkrankheiten, Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation, Kidney and Blood Pressure Research a vědeckým oponentem publikací v zahraničním i domácím písemnictví. Vede postgraduální výuku v nefrologii a podílí se na výuce pregraduální na I. LF UK.
Dlouhodobě se účastnil práce ve výboru ČNS (v letech 1996 - 1999 předseda, dále místopředseda), je členem výboru SKVIMP (místopředseda sekce) a nově členem výboru Evropské společnosti pro výživu (ESPEN) za Českou republiku. Je členem řady dalších mezinárodních nefrologických a nutricionistických společností (EDTA/ERA, ISN, ASN, ESPEN, DGN). Je nově členem výboru světové Int Soc of Renal Nutrition and Metabolism. Studijně pobýval v USA (Yale) a Německu (stipendiu DAAD Hohenheim) a pracoval jako Oberarzt v Dessau. Je čestným členem Maďarské a Slovenské nefrologické společnosti.
Prof Teplan je ženatý,manželka je ekonomka na Státním fondu životního prostředí. Syn pracuje jako chirurg ve FNKV a 3.LF UK, dcera je ekonomka a nutriční poradkyně. Ve volných chvílích rád sportuje a cestuje, čte historickou literaturu a dotváří profesní harmonii řemeslnou prací.
