Prof. MUDr. Martin Matějovič, Ph.D., absolvent lékařské fakulty UK v Plzni (1993), v letech 1997–1998 absolvoval část Ph.D. studia na univerzitě Ulm v Německu. Po svém návratu působil jako asistent LF UK na I. interní klinice LF a FN Plzeň a získal specializovanou způsobilost v oborech vnitřního lékařství a intenzivní medicíny. V roce 2004 byl jmenován docentem a v roce 2009 profesorem vnitřního lékařství. Od roku 2006 je přednostou 1. interní kliniky FN a LF UK v Plzni.
Profesor Matějovič je autorem nebo spoluautorem více než 250 publikací, jež byly více než 1000 krát citovány a 3 monografií. Je držitelem The European Society of Intensive Care Medicine Yearly Award a nositelem prestižních zahraničních stipendií (Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship a Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds Stiftung für Medizinische Grundlagenforschung). Profesor Matějovič je místopředsedou výboru České společnosti intenzivní medicíny, působil jako Council Member Evropské společnosti intenzivní medicíny (ESIM). Působí jako člen Vědecké rady Agentury pro zdravotnický výzkum České republiky a předseda Panelu Poruchy orgánových funkcí a úrazová a intenzivní medicína“.
